Bo de B is my neighborhood spot that my roommates and I go to at least once a week. One of our friends from University of Miami studied abroad in Barcelona last year and did the exact same thing with his group friends. When we went here for the first time, we told the woman in charge, Fatima, that we were friends with that group of boys. Fatima remembered all of their names and greeted us with open arms, explaining that they came so often and she loved them so much that they were her sons and now we would be her daughters. We immediately felt at home from the friendly atmosphere. The other people who work here are also friendly but its a very fast-paced place and we definitely don’t expect long conversations with anyone else.

The restaurant is a hole-in-the-wall, but remember not to judge a book by it’s cover. The Bo de B sandwiches are known as the best sandwiches in Barcelona. Its extremely popular for both locals and tourists, especially American students studying abroad, because you can get a full meal (amazing, massive sandwiches with quality ingredients) for €4. There’s usually a long line so avoid peak times. You should try going at an off-time  before 2pm or after 4pm.

The famous sandwiches are served on a warm, soft baguette. I usually try to avoid eating white bread but the baguette is irresistible – even when I order a salad I can’t stop myself from helping myself to the hot bread basket that comes on the side. You can choose from a wide range of toppings (including feta cheese, rice, tomatoes, cucumbers, lentils, cabbage, olives, corn, lettuce, arugula, tuna, and smoked salmon) and sauces (including balsamic reduction, tzatziki, avocado, and pesto). One of the reasons this is one of the best fast food restaurants in Barcelona is because nothing is pre-made. Everything is cooked in front of your eyes and constructed based on our personal preferences. The meats, for instance, are cooked fresh when you order. I suggest getting the chicken because the steak is a little chewy.

Other than the sandwiches, the braves are also especially good here. The potato wedges are perfectly crispy  and topped with a mouth-watering combination of balsamic reduction, pesto, tzatziki, and hot sauce.

If you’re taking the food to-go, you can only get salads without meat, the braves, and the sandwiches. As a health tip, if you’re getting the food to-go and want a chicken salad, you can order a salad and a chicken sandwich separately, and put the chicken from the sandwich into the salad. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a salad without protein or a chicken sandwich with bread. I suggest getting a sandwich to-go and eating it across the street in the park Plaça de l’Ictineo, which overlooks the water. The sandwiches are also great to pickup as a snack for the beach during the summer. Unfortunately, you have to eat at the restaurant to enjoy the other items on the menu. I say unfortunately because there is limited space inside and the tables are close together. The only other negative thing I have to say about the restaurant is that everything on the menu has the same topping and sauce options, which is bad news for people like me who get sick of eating the same types of food often. My roommates, on the other had, would eat at Bo de B everyday if they could.
